For almost 20 years, I’ve been dedicated to telling captivating, immersive, and emotional stories throughout the world. Sometimes that has been through theater, sometimes through LARP, always through collaborative efforts to build a larger narrative than what a single person can do alone. This blog is dedicated to exploring the best ways to tell those stories, building future stories, sharing my knowledge about event design, and helping people get an on the ground view into the world of a semi-professional storyteller.
My name is Ericka Skirpan and I’m part experience designer, writer, actor, and instructor. I’ve been in the LARP and interactive theater trenches for half my life. I have an Honors BFA in theater from the University of Toronto where I was the artistic director for “In the Moment Productions,” a theater company dedicated to audience interactive, immersive theater. I firmly believe in bringing emotionally cathartic transformations to actors and audiences alike through live storytelling; then providing the safety mechanisms to ensure a healthy return to reality after such experiences. I just finished as the Head Storyteller for Sinking Ship Creations’ “Project Ascension.” In 2018, I worked as the Head Writer Pertho Productions’ Dead Legends LARP. Now, I’m the founding partner of Entropic Endeavors, a new event production company dedicated to creating stories examining the ways humanity falls apart.
While this blog is not an endorsement of any of those games, I do make money from them and am financially connected as a freelancer. I have also written for John Wick’s 7th Sea books, Onyx Path Productions Vampire: The Requiem and Changeling: The Dreaming. After playing Gertrude in Participation Design Agency’s Inside Hamlet, as well as participating in the groundbreaking Nordic LARP 1942, I returned to the United States with a strong dedication towards combining American, mechanics and plot driving gaming with more freeform, narrative storytelling in a completely new style of LARP design for companies across North America.
